3D Model: My Sketchbook
Hello friends! I've just finished my first pass at modeling my sketchbook and I'd like to share my process here. I started by modeling a basic open book in Maya. Here are some photos of my sketchbook:
Here are some wireframe screenshots:
Now, I'll be the first to admit I auto UV'ed this. Baby steps! I took the UVs into photoshop and hand painted the textures. I took some of my sketches for the pages and copied the graphic design I drew on the cover with my gel pen.
I'm pretty happy with what I have so far, but I also have more work to do. I took this model into Zbrush to add wear to the cover edges as well as the canvas like texture of the cover, but as I'm still learning Zbrush I made multiple mistakes and will have to reattempt it again later. Once I successfully accomplish this I'll also paint in the cardboard that peeks out along the edges of the cover. All in good time! Mostly I'm just happy I've made a successful model! I'm also planning on retexturing this model in 3D coat to start to learn that program, and if I'm not sick of this model after that I may even take another whack at it in Substance to start to poke around in that program.
