RPP3: Daily Dev Blog Post 05
Day 5 and all is well!
Yesterday we talked about the first steps we took on building our game level in engine. We're using Unity for our project, since it's what the majority of our group are comfortable in, and it lends itself so well to 2D work, which is our chosen style for this game. Now our programmers are starting to consider the characters and how they move around in our game. Who are our characters, you ask?
Our rebellious hero, Garen des Grenouilles (Guardian of Frogs), must traverse a treacherous kitchen and defeat the evil Chef that has been cooking his brethren for far too long. This is a tale of peril and righteousness. How will he defeat an enemy so large when he is so small? He doesn't even have thumbs!
One thing's for sure, he won't be able to defeat the Chef without being able to move around! Garen has to be able to "walk" and jump if he expects to get anywhere. This means that our character designer and animator, Caro, has to break down and draw out those movements and hand them off to the programmer, Michael, for integration. He can then map those animations to the WASD keys, or a joystick on a controller depending on what console the game is being played on. Voila! We have the ability to navigate around in the world we've built.
See you tomorrow for another Daily Dev update, where we'll really "jump in" to our Tongue Mechanics!
