RPP3: Daily Dev Blog Post 10

Welcome to day 10!

Things are chugging along and the team is turning out more art and audio assets, and working on adding the tutorial into our game! Our tutorial puts our player character on the ground and has him climb up open drawers (platforms) to get up to the 'boss' fight with the chef. This allows the player to experiment with which buttons control movement. We may even have objects falling for the player to avoid, to teach the player that knives and forks are bad and can result in a lost 'heart,' or French Flag.

Yesterday we talked about tutorials and what not to do in them, and today we can see how our dev team is implementing those tips in our game's tutorial. We'll be avoiding walls of text and controller menus, and allowing for experimentation of the player while playing off of existing movement control expectations. "Press spacebar to jump," etc.

See you tomorrow for another Daily Dave update!

Today's bonus content is a peek at the art of our tutorial done by Jerry. We take his art, what we call a "Matte Painting," and separate out the drawers to turn them into platforms in game. We can add collision to these drawers in Unity so our player character can stand on them.
